Development Photographs 3

My next developments, I wanted to take my idea further. I have decided to use different view points taking inspiration from Aldridge. This time, I intend to look down upon the subject as well as up towards me. This is to portray not only the power, but to also stress the stereotypes that are associated with women.

With flash experiments;

I started to develop my composition ideas by involving movement with ingredients influenced by photographer Nik Sharma. To create the harsh contrast that Aldridge produces for the aesthetic look, I decided to experiment using the flash. After a few shots, I felt that they were not what I was looking for. The flash created a harsh shadow which was done by using the one flash light that I had which was hard to avoid.  I also feel that the lighting is too overpowering on the subject. The movement that was captured within these compositions are effective. The movement adds character to the composition reflecting the woman's personality- there is more to a woman than just the ability to bake. She is allowed to have fun and she is allowed to do it in her own way.

Moving on from the trials with the flash, I took the idea of using the cocoa powder to incorporate movement further within my compositions. Whilst shooting, I decided to get messy. In the end, it created a narrative.
Alcohol/wine is a common stereotype for what females tend to drink. I decided to bring this into the composition to reflect the woman having a good time and enjoying herself. As the photographs progressed, I started to throw the cocoa powder around to create some movement relating to Sharma. This is representing the model getting slightly tipsy and just letting go. Once she realises that she has made a huge mess she starts to panic and worry. I then positioned myself on the floor looking desperate to clean the floor. I feel that this represents the pressure that gender stereotyping can have. The model is clearly in distress which suggests she is worried about how people would perceive her because she is not the typical housewife (neat and clean). A running theme throughout my developments consist of the Aldridge contrasting. This adds a 'perfect' element to my compositions which suggest the stereotype that you can't make yourself look presentable and be a good housewife, it is either one or the other.
