My initial idea for my presentation is to create a series of photographs reflecting the stereotype relating to women in the kitchen- I want to produce this on something that is related to the kitchen. Below is a mood board of a few ideas that I can use.

Moodboard on presentation ideas. |
I aim to use a cork board or a magnetic board to mount my photographs onto. I will use either pins or magnets to attach the photographs to the board. This relates to something that appears in majority of kitchens. Many people use things like this as 'to do' lists or a place to put recipes and shopping lists.

Above, you can see my initial experiments with the cork board idea. I have used my dark room prints as an example. I have also included old recipes of my mums and other recipes that I had found. I am using these to signify the kitchen atmosphere in the home. |
I have decided to include my dark room prints within my presentation. These will be for presentation purposes only, just to enhance the overall theme and aesthetic to my work. Their appearance is quite quirky as they as printed quite small, however, I believe that they compliment the idea of bringing past and present together to illustrate how the stereotype is still very much present.

Here, I experimented with my presentation. Using my chosen selection, I began to think about the composition and how to lay my piece out. I have used items from which I had found at home, all relating to the baking theme. These items are all old and vintage style. I like how this contrasts my photographs, making it a comparison between different eras which then links nicely with the stereotypes of women and how times have moved on. |

As an experiment, I decided to test what my other photographs from my development looked like. I believe my first development shoot, displaying the power of women, was very strong, therefore I wanted to see if it could fit in with my final piece. Once placed on the board against my chosen selection, I feel that they did not look compatible with the others. I believe that if I had a bigger surface to mount my photographs on, or my photographs were smaller, then I could of incorporated some more of these compositions. I do however, like the colour theme that is running through my work, which heavily links to photographer Aldridge. Another issue I had with including these extra compositions, was the message that is being put across. Although, my development photographs all link together with one theme, I changed my path slightly in what message I was trying to put across. The first developmental shoot was to portray the power of the woman in the kitchen. It was to shoe that a woman is still considered a powerful human even when she is baking. My final chosen selection, took a slightly different route, in that it symbolises the opposite of being 'powerful.' It is to play on the stereotype and became more of a descriptive. Having said that, if I were to do this again with more time in my exam, I could of possibly developed further in both areas and bring them together. |

As part of my presentation, I wanted to make my photographs look presentable. As my piece is all about the home environment, I didn't want to create a very simple and immaculate composition, I wanted to explore what it would look like in the kitchen. I firstly considered how I was to mount my photographs before being placed onto the cork board. I did this by leaving a border around the original photograph and then mounted that onto black card. As I was aiming for a busy composition, I wanted my photographs to be noticeable amongst everything else, therefore, I only will mount the photographs using black card. |

Once, mounting all my photographs, I began to look into the composition as a whole. Above, is one of the attempts at composing my final piece. I have placed the supporting pieces on the board first so then I can layer my photographs over the top as they are the most prominent part of my piece. I then began to place my photographs over the top. I did not specifically place them in order as my photographs were not taken to tell a story. I wanted to place them at random to create a sense of chaos and disruption which ultimately reflect the photographs that I am using. |
